Pedestrian robberies followed by fast arrest
On Saturday morning, at 6:32 a.m., Central and East Precinct officers responded to a report of two separate pedestrian robberies on Southeast Powell Boulevard.
Officers arrived in the area and located both victims. An adult female victim reported she was robbed by a suspect with a gun at 6:32 a.m. while in the 3100 block of S.E. Powell Boulevard. The second victim, an adult male, stated that he was robbed at gunpoint at 6:46 a.m. The second victim informed officers he was near S.E. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd (formerly 39th) and Powell Boulevard when he was held up.
During the investigations, officers determined that both victims had been approached by a man who made demands and brandished a firearm. Neither victim reported being injured during the robberies.
Both victims provided a description of the suspect. Officers performed an area search, and found a suspect matching the description provided by the victims, as the suspect left Creston Park. He was taken into custody.
Detectives with the PPB Detective Division's Robbery Detail responded to assist with the investigation. As the Robbery Detail detectives searched an area near Creston Elementary School they spotted and seized a gun believed to have been used in the robberies.
The suspect in these robberies has been identified as 20-year-old Javontae Rogers. Rogers was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on two counts each of Robbery in the First Degree and Robbery in the Second Degree.
