Good Samaritans injured in Sunday morning crash on I-205
Three men were injured in a three-vehicle crash on I-205 near the Foster Road exit Sunday morning. Two of the injured were assisting a driver who appeared to have broken down.
The names and conditions of the victims were not immediately released. Two were transported to area hospitals.
According to Portland police, at 10:56 a.m. on March 4, East Precinct officers responded to the report of an injury crash on northbound Interstate 205 north of the Southeast Foster Road exit.
When officers, emergency medical personnel and Oregon Department of Transportation responders arrived on the scene, they found three vehicles that were involved in a crash. The responders also located three adult men with injuries as a result of this crash. Emergency medical personnel provided medical aid to all three and transported two of the injured people to area hospitals by ambulances.
Based on preliminary information, officers believe the driver and occupant of a Toyota Tundra had pulled to the side of the road to provide assistance to a Dodge Durango that appeared to be broken down in the right breakdown lane of northbound Interstate 205. While the driver and passenger of the Tundra were outside of their vehicle, the driver of a Toyota Sienna minivan collided with the Durango.
Police say that during the crash, the people associated with the Tundra and the driver, and only occupant, of the Sienna were injured. One of the people associated with the Tundra sustained what were believed to be serious life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Sienna sustained non-life threatening injuries. The other person associated with the Tundra was treated for his injuries by on scene emergency medical personnel and released at the scene.
Officers do not believe the Dodge Durango was occupied at the time of this collision.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team responded to the area to continue this investigation. The right travel and breakdown lanes of northbound Interstate 205 north of the Southeast Foster Road exit were expected to be closed for several hours
