Albertson seeks fourth term on School Board
The Oregon May election is just around the corner, including voting for your local Tigard-Tualatin School Board members. Ballots and the voter's pamphlet will be arriving soon.
As one of your School Board members for the past 12 years, I hope that I have represented you adequately and well, and, if given the opportunity, will continue to do so for the next four years. I'll try over the following weeks to attend both King City and Summerfield events to talk to you and answer questions you might have about our schools, about public education in general, and your role in educating our district's children.
As our public education budgets have dwindled over the past decade, we've been forced to drastically reduce the numbers of teachers and other staff. Similarly, core course offerings and elective options (including the arts) have been eliminated.
On the other hand, the number of children in our K-12 classrooms has ballooned (approaching nearly unmanageable levels, from an instructional point of view). The 2013-14 school year, unfortunately, will very probably be no different than past years. In short, teaching and public education isn't what it used to be even over the course of my time the board.
Your potential role in helping us educate our kids, many of them very possibly your grandchildren, is enormous. Frankly, we need your help, in a myriad of ways. I am anxious to visit with you all, give you my perspective of our schools and K-12 (and beyond) education, and hear your ideas about how, together, we can assure our kids get the best education we can provide them even in the face of dwindling resources.
As always, I appreciate your support.
Barry Albertson (Position 1)
