Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge is host to many forms of wildlife. During this Holiday season, a pair of Columbia blacktail deer has been seen along the steep ridge separating S.E. McLoughlin Boulevard from the river, enchanting passing motorists who are lucky enough to spot them. The deer prefer to come out in early morning or evening hours, to browse on the grass there. They can be seen just north of S.E. Center Street, on property belonging to Ross Island Sand & Gravel.
