Woodstock Key Bank bandit caught; accused of multiple crimes

When a heavyset man strolled into Key Bank’s Woodstock branch at about 3 pm on Thursday, December 27, he quickly made it clear he was there to make an unauthorized withdrawal. The Portland Police Bureau later reported that the man, wearing a dark-colored “hoodie” jacket, had slipped a note to a teller, demanding money.

The robber ran out of the bank at S.E. 46th Avenue and Woodstock Boulevard, and vanished into the neighborhood.

But, as it turns out, PPB Robbery Division detectives were able to gather plenty of clues about the man they called “Dopey the Bandit”, and made an arrest less than 15 days later.

Foster Road.

Outside a 7-Eleven Store in Milwaukie, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies tracked down and arrested 43-year-old Bradley John Kehm at 2:45 am on January 10.

“Kehm was nicknamed ‘Dopey the Bandit’ after numerous Portland area robberies,” said PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson. “Kehm used a replica firearm or implied that he had a firearm in many of the robberies.”

Kehm is also accused these other robberies in Inner Southeast Portland:

· November 14 Goodwill, located at 9015 S.E. Powell Boulevard

· November 21 Century 16 Theater, located at 4040 S.E. 82nd Avenue, in the Eastport Plaza

· December 10 Fred Meyer, at 5035 S.E. 82nd Avenue, just south of Holgate

· December 15 Franz Bakery outlet store, at 8440 S.E. 45th Avenue, near Johnson Creek Boulevard

Robbery Detectives have linked Kehm to 11 robberies, Simpson revealed. Four of these robberies are federally-insured financial institutions and so federal charges are pending against him.

With a combined bail set at $2,250,000, Kehm remains lodged in the Multnomah County Inverness Jail.
