Flag on the street...in Southeast

A patriotic street painting has appeared in the Mt. Scott neighborhood, at the intersection of S.E. 74th and Martins Street. The 30' x 45' American Flag was painted by resident Carl Mathews to honor those who have served in the military. “My father, father-in-law, and both my grandfathers served in the Army and Navy,” he recalls. “During a Fourth of July BBQ that I hosted, I got to thinking about how to honor all veterans, and decided to create an American flag in the intersection.” Mathews painted it with interior latex paint. “One of my neighbors helped. It took ten and a half hours to complete, and we finished it under the street light.” And, just in time for Presidents Day, February 18th.
