Driver charged, after car smashes 50th Avenue utility pole

by: COURTESY OF DESMOND MOORE - The collision with this utility pole damaged the SUV, and took out the power pole and the power, on S.E. 50th Avenue at Powell Boulevard. The power went out, and S.E. 50th Avenue was shut down just north of S.E. Powell Boulevard, just before midnight on February 18 – when a SUV slammed through a wooden utility pole.

It’s unclear why the driver of the 2008 Honda CRV had struck the pole so sharply that it snapped like a twig. But the impact dumped two large electrical transformers and cables into the street, and cut off power to the area.

PGE crews worked through the night, and into the next day, to replace the pole and hook up new electrical gear.

Multnomah County Detention Center records showed that 34-year-old Daniel Todd Zoller was placed under arrest at 12:42 am on February 19th, charged with Criminal Mischief II, DUII, and Reckless Driving.

Zoller was “Released on Own Recognizance” later that morning – but he probably wasn’t driving as he went home.
