Wildlife in the city

by: ERIC NORBERG - RaccoonIn late May, several neighbors in north Westmoreland were alarmed to see a raccoon on the sidewalk in broad daylight at 10 am; usually that portends a sick or dangerous animal. But this one climbed a fence, and made a meal of cat food on a porch, followed by a chaser of water (shown), before ambling away. The creature supped in a leisurely manner, while keeping his gaze fixed on the BEE camera. We later learned from the homeowner that the raccoon had visited this way before, seemed healthy, and gets along with his cats. He calls him “Bob”, because his tail got bobbed somehow.
