Guns and a bomb found on a man in Brooklyn Park

On Sunday morning, July 21, at 10:41 am, Central Precinct officers were flagged down at Brooklyn Park, in front of 1001 S.E. Haig Street, by a citizen reporting a man making threats with a gun.

Officers located the suspect, a 49-year-old male, and took him into custody at 10:55 am. Officers conducting an inventory of the bag he was carrying found two handguns inside, and a suspicious device.

Powell Boulevard.Based on a preliminary examination, officers called for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) to respond, and closed Brooklyn Park to the public until the device had been inspected, and if necessary disabled. The Bomb Squad arrived was able to disable the suspicious device. Bomb Techs examined it, and determined that it was indeed a small homemade explosive device in a small plastic bottle. They reopened Brooklyn Park when the investigation was complete.

Subsequently, the man arrested in the case, 49-year-old Michael Daniel Moore, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail at 1:14 pm, on charges of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Menacing, and Manufacturing and Possessing a Destructive Device. He was being held in lieu of $22,500 bail, and was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on the following day.
