by: J. FOYSTON - Branch FallSometime before dawn on Monday, July 22, in calm weather, a huge thirty-foot section of a tree just west of the Sellwood Park north-end parking lot broke off and smashed to the ground across the footpath.

It was spotted and photographed by a bike rider, who reflected that it was a very good thing that nobody was under it as it came down.

It remained for Parks Department personnel to cut it up and haul it away, later in the day.
