Woman seen cashing checks - stolen from a soldier

by: STORE SURVEILLANCE PHOTO - Do you recognize this woman (upper left)? If so, turn her in, and help police bust a truck-stealing, ID-theft ring that victimized a U.S. Soldier on S.E. Foster Road.A U.S. Army soldier was enjoying some well-earned rest and relaxation on the evening of July 14 at Red’s Bar & Grill, at 7025 S.E. Foster Road.

While he was relaxing inside the friendly neighborhood establishment, a crook or crooks were busily at work outside, at 11:10 pm – breaking into his 2002 Dodge Ram pickup, hot-wiring it, and taking it for a brief joyride.

Four hours later, the truck was dumped a few blocks away, at S.E. 80th and Bush Street. “When it was found, missing from the truck were several personal items, including the victim’s checkbook,” reported Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

“The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is now asking for the public’s help in identifying the identity thief using those stolen checks,” Simpson said.

Detectives investigating the theft released surprisingly-clear surveillance images of a woman using the victim's checks to purchase items at a Portland-area gas station.

“The suspect is described as white female with a heavy build, driving a dark blue Ford Expedition,” Simpson said. Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or in any unsolved felony – and you can remain anonymous.
