Holgate - 17th intersection makeover completed

by: DAVID F. ASHTON - All through each night, from September 12 to 20, flaggers choreographed the movement of cars and construction vehicles as TriMet installed light rail track across the street, and rebuilt the Holgate-at-17th intersection. For eight days, it was a real challenge to motorists. Night and day, from September 12th through the 20th, drivers struggled to navigate the S.E. Holgate Boulevard intersection at 17th, while the TriMet’s Portland-Milwaukie MAX Light Rail tracks were installed across it.

Flaggers choreographed the movement of cars, trucks, and construction vehicles, keeping traffic moving – and keeping the work underway – 24 hours a day.

TriMet Community Affairs Representative Jennifer Koozer provided THE BEE with statistics about this part of the project. Installed were:

·

  • 2,690 Tons of base rock

    ·

  • 260 cubic yards concrete track slabs, curbs, and sidewalks

    ·

  • 370 Feet of embedded rail track

    ·

  • 1,550 Tons of asphalt paving

When the last of the flaggers left the area on the evening of Friday, September 20, exactly 200 'round-the-clock crew hours had been logged to complete the intersection on schedule, Koozer said.
