Armed robber hits Foster Road Dollar Tree store

by: DAVID F. ASHTON - Neighbors say theyre surprised that, of all the businesses in the area, an armed robber chose the neighborhood dollar store for a holdup.Monday evening, November 4th, an armed man walked into the Dollar Tree store at 6868 S.E. Foster Road about 8:30 pm, and walked out with money, police say.

“I thought it was so weird,” Maynard Guthrie told THE BEE as he watched East Precinct police officers spread out through the Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood looking for the suspect. “I mean, it’s a ‘dollar store’ – not a bank!”

The robbery was no joke, assured PPB Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson. “The victim told officers that the suspect entered the store, armed with a handgun, and demanded money.

“After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money,” Simpson added, “the suspect left the store, and was last seen walking eastbound on Foster Road.”

Several officers prowled the neighborhood, but did not find anyone matching the bandit’s description.

“The suspect is described as a white male in his 50s, 6 feet tall, medium build, blue eyes, a pockmarked face, wearing a dark beanie cap and a dark jacket, and armed with a handgun,” Simpson recounted.
