by: PHOTO COURTESY OF KOIN LOCAL-6 NEWS - The smashed windshield was evidence that this Mazda Protege had struck and injured a pedestrian attempting to dart across S.E. 82nd Avenue.A jaywalking pedestrian dressed in dark clothing was struck by two cars when he stepped off of the west sidewalk into the southbound right lane of S.E. 82nd Avenue of Roses near Raymond Street on the evening of January 26.

“The victim, 61-year-old Frank Grammer, was struck by a southbound Mazda Protege driven by 53-year-old Brian Keith Monsrud,” reported Portland Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Pete Simpson.

“The victim was thrown up and over the Mazda, and landed in the street – where he was struck a second time, by a 2005 Volkswagen Passat Wagon driven by a 64-year-old male,” Simpson said.

Both drivers remained at the scene and were cooperative with the investigation, added Simpson. “However, Monsrud was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Reckless Driving. The second driver was not cited.”

The pedestrian, Frank Grammer, reportedly remains in critical condition at a Portland hospital.
