Guilty plea in headstone theft

THE BEE reported in its February issue that 54-year-old Christopher Kelley, a TriMet bus driver, had been indicted by a Grand Jury for the alleged theft of four gravestones from the Rebekah Community Cemetery in Wasco County, near the eastern Oregon town of Dufur. A search warrant was issued, and the four missing headstones were found in Kelley’s Sellwood back yard, being used as landscape decorations.

Kelley was scheduled for a court date of January 27th, and if he were to be found guilty, he faced up to $200,000 in fines, plus restitution.

In court on Monday, January 27th, Kelley entered a plea of guilty, and in the plea deal he received two years probation, plus a requirement for 200 hours of community service.
