Because all the storefronts had been leased, it looked like Santa Claus wouldn’t have a place to call “home” during the Holidays at Eastport Plaza this year.

But, inspiration struck!

In the Community Outreach Christmas Tree area, there’s a temporary office trailer, with Santa’s Throne inside – the original chair built for the shopping center when it opened in 1960, and recently refurbished.

Admission to Santa’s Place, and photos with Santa, are free – but, for those who can, they ask for a donation of a new unwrapped toy, a new coat, a new blanket, or a non-perishable food item or two.

Eastport Plaza is on S.E. 82nd Avenue of Roses, from Holgate Boulevard northward.
