Comic play 'Death by Chocolate' opens at Sellwood Playhouse

by: DAVID F. ASHTON - Sellwood Playhouses director, Tom Grieve, helps mystery writer Miss Edna Parlor (played by Carita Louise), gossip columnist Margret Daniels (Angela Ward) learns to interact with the always-unintelligible Sweet Pea Meadowbrook (Heidi French).Based on the antics we observed during a rehearsal, there will be big laughs emanating from the little Sellwood Playhouse, when “Death by Chocolate” opens in late September.

In author Paul Freed’s delightfully sarcastic and cynical comedic murder mystery, the guests and staff of the newly renovated “Meadowbrook Health Resort” are dropping like flies – not good publicity, on the eve of its grand re-opening.

“This play mixes the elements of a classic murder mystery with a scathing satire of health crazes of the day,” said Tom Grieve, the show’s director. “The resort’s manager teams up with a mystery writer and amateur sleuth who suspect the deaths might have something to do with a sinister box of chocolates.”

The show plays on the weekends of September 20 and 21; September 27 and 28; and October 4 and 5. For tickets and reservations, call 503/490-5975.
