This Monday, March 20, Marco's Cafe at 7910 SW 35th Avenue, will be hosting a benefit dinner for the Save the Children Syrian Children's Relief Fund.
From 5-9 p.m., all sales and gratuities will be donated to help support children impacted by Syria's civil war and resulting refugee crisis. Marco's staff members will also be donating their time for the charity event, and D'Vine Handcrafted Wine has additionally donated bottles for a wine raffle and grab bags.
"The ongoing plight of Syrian refugees represents one of the worst humanitarian crises of our lifetime," said Marco's Cafe General Manager Sara Dismukes. "The whole team at Marco's was looking for an opportunity to help somehow, and we were thrilled to be able to partner with Save the Children, a leading force for global good, to host this benefit dinner. We hope that our small contribution can make a big difference in the lives of some of the children affected by this horrible situation."
More than 11 million people have been killed or forced to flee as a result of the six-year Syrian civil war. Syria's children have witnessed the realities of war, faced starvation, lost loved ones, seen their homes and schools destroyed, and had their families torn apart. Many of these traumatized children show signs of severe psychological distress, with possibly lifelong effects.
Save the Children's Syrian Children's Relief Fund is dedicated to providing relief and support to help these children heal from the physical and emotional wounds of war. Proceeds provide: household shelter kits; care for orphans and vulnerable children, including counseling; warm blankets and other necessities; teacher tools to help keep kids; art supplies, games and activities.
