Police respond to shots fired near Clatskanie

Shots fired inside house near Clatskanie; no reports of injury

Police agencies are responding to a report of shots fired Friday afternoon shortly after 3 p.m. at a residence outside of rural Clatkskanie, on Beaver Falls Road.

“Right now what we’ve got is a dispute that occurred at a house outside [Clatskanie] in the county,” said Columbia County Sheriff Jeff Dickerson.

Dickerson said it appears an intoxicated resident fired shots inside the house. There are no reports of anyone being shot, he said.

“We don’t have that information anyway,” Dickerson said.

He said there were others inside the house at the time of the shooting who have since been moved to safety.

The Sheriff’s Office had set up staff in the Clatskanie Police Department office for three-hour period on Friday when the shooting occurred to provide easier access of services, such as concerned handgun permit renewals, for residents in the north end of the county.

Dickerson said his department and other responding police officers are treating the suspect as “armed and hostile."

He added that a special tactical police team has been activated to respond to the shooting.

There is no further information available as of this report.
