The schoolwide goal was 5,000 items and classes stopped just shy of that number.

The food will go to the Scappoose Share and Care program which benefits needy families in the area. The students began collecting food in November and ended Dec. 21.

A fifth-grade class taught by Ronda Kienlen came in second with 954 items collected, and Karen Stoel’s fourth-grade class snagged third place with 443 items.
