Clownin' around

by: SPOTLIGHT PHOTO: KATIE WILSON - A class at the Lil Learners preschool in Grace Christian Church in St. Helens giggles at Skeeter the Clowns antics May 24.It didn’t start out with screams of appreciation... just screams. But by the time “Skeeter the Clown” had been at her act for a minute, the kids were laughing.

To promote the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus which opens in Scappoose June 1, Skeeter visited local preschool and school camps in St. Helens May 24.

She taught Ben Galceran, 11, and Allie Peahl, 8, in Pacific Camps before and after school program, how to balance a peacock feather on the tip of one finger, and fielded all sorts of questions: Are you a real clown? Are your feet actually that big?

The big top will go up June 1 and shows begin that afternoon at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets can still be purchased through the South Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. Call 503-397-0685 or 503-396-1237 for more information. Tickets through the Chamber of Commerce are $6 for children ages 2-12 and $10 for adults. Prices will increase the day of the circus.
