Car vs. log truck injures woman, closes highway

A Birkenfeld woman is in the hospital with serious injuries following an early morning collision with an unloaded log truck on Highway 202 June 5.

Sarah Naeve, 26, was driving eastbound on Highway 202 near Birkenfeld at 6:47 a.m. when she crossed the centerline into the path of an oncoming log truck driven by Robby Tovey, 28, of Hillsboro. Tovey was unable to avoid the car and the vehicles collided nearly head-on, said Oregon State Police Trooper Jessica Spurlock.

Naeve was taken to Oregon Health & Science University by LifeFlight. Tovey was not injured. Both drivers were using safety restraints and the airbags in Naeve’s car deployed.

OSP is continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash including looking into the possibility that bright sun conditions may have been a factor in the crossover collision. Trooper Spurlock is the lead investigator.

OSP was also assisted at the scene by ODOT and a tow company out of Scappoose. The highway was blocked about one hour.
