Motorcyclist in custody after police chase

A 24-year-old motorcyclist is in custody after attempting to elude an Oregon State Police trooper early this morning. The chase started along Highway 30, east of Scappoose, and ended when the motorcyclist crashed into a yard in North Portland. At the request of OSP, Portland Police Bureau is investigating a reported collision involving the motorcyclist and an OSP patrol car prior to the incident.

Preliminary information indicates that a driving complaint was received on Friday, July 19, at approximately 7:40 a.m. of a high speed, reckless motorcycle heading eastbound on Highway 30 from the Scappoose area. Approximately five minutes later, an OSP trooper saw a motorcycle traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour eastbound near milepost 14 and attempted to stop it. The motorcyclist refused to yield to the trooper's emergency lights and siren and continued eastbound at a high rate of speed, exiting off Highway 30 at the St. Johns Bridge into North Portland.

At approximately 7:52 a.m., the motorcyclist rode over a curb in the vicinity of North Mohawk Avenue and North Ivanhoe Street and crashed into a yard. The operator was then taken into custody.
