Local libraries band together for Wild West-themed events
Columbia County libraries want to take you on a journey through the Wild West during their 2012 'Our Community Reads' program.
Over the next three months, participating Columbia County libraries will guide readers through a selection of Western-themed books and events. Participants in different age groups will read from selected books, including adult selection 'The Hearts of Horses,' by Portland author Molly Gloss, teen selection 'The Devil's Paintbox,' by Victoria McKernan and kid selection 'The Captain's Dog,' by Oregon author Roland Smith.
In addition, a number of themed events will be held at the libraries. Gloss will be at the Vernonia Public Library on Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. to read from her latest work. She will also visit the St. Helens Public Library on March 1 at 7 p.m.
A western film series will be held at the Scappoose and Vernonia libraries, while St. Helens will host 'Sing Like a Cowboy' night.
Participating libraries include: The Scappoose Public Library, St. Helens Public Library, Columbia City Community Library, Rainier City Library, Vernonia Public Library and the Clatskanie Library District.
