Heart of community fills Empty Bowls

Fundraiser for food bank aims to help feed the hungry

The annual 'Empty Bowls' food bank fundraiser is returning March 9 for its sixth year.

Empty Bowls is sponsored by the Columbia County Commission on Children and Families and is the annual fundraiser for the Columbia Pacific Food Bank.

At the event, which will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McBride Elementary (2774 Columbia Blvd., St. Helens). Participants will dine on a simple meal of soup in a decorated bowl of their choice. The bowls are designed and crafted by local high school pottery class students.

A $10 donation will pay for soup from a number of local restaurants, including: Bertucci's, Dockside, Houlton Bakery, Nawitka Catering and Sunshine Pizza.
