The free event will be held at the St. Helens OSU Extension office, located at 505 N. Columbia River Highway.

“It’s really not a formal kind of structure,” said Amy Grotta, OSU/Columbia County Extension forestry agent. “We’re calling it a fair because it’s an open-house event for people to come and interact with professionals who are available to help with the stewardship of their property,”

Anyone who owns wooded property in Columbia County is invited to drop by the fair to learn about programs and organizations that can help individuals care for and be stewards of their land.

Local representatives will be on hand from the Oregon Department of Forestry, the Columbia County Small Woodlands Association, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Columbia Soil and Water Conservation District and the OSU Extension Service as well as other woodland owners who are experienced and trained to provide suggestions on woodland management.

Grotta said representatives from the Columbia County Assessor’s Office will also be available to help qualifying landowners navigate forest land deferral tax programs.

The event will have an informal, open-house format where attendees can connect with local resource professionals and take home new information. OSU extension exployees encourage attendees to come with questions regarding management of forested property.

“It’s free and there will be educational material to take home,” Grotta said. “It’s a good way to connect with different organizations in Columbia County that work with woodland landowners.”
