by: COURTESY OF THE ST. HELENS POLICE DEPARTMENT - The remainder of the supply of coffee at the St. Helens Senior Center. Police say thieves stole dozens of cans of the Folgers Classic Roast, but appeared to leave the Classic Decaf alone.Somebody got between St. Helens seniors and their coffee earlier this month, according to city police.

Police said thieves broke into a storage shed at the St. Helens Senior Center sometime between Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9. The only thing they stole from the shed was a veritable stockpile of coffee — some 82 cans of Folgers Classic Roast, police said.

“You’ll see that our suspects did not favor the decaf,” St. Helens Police Chief Terry Moss noted Friday, April 18, when he announced the theft. “Not to worry, all of the remaining coffee was carried inside the main senior center building and secured.”

The culprits appear to have gone to ground. But the St. Helens Police Department is investigating and searching for leads in the case.

“These 13 cases of coffee would have been a difficult haul without a vehicle and some assistance,” a department release read in part. “Perhaps there is a witness in the community that could help us solve this case and return the coffee to our seniors.”

Citizens of the area should be on alert for the stolen coffee. Anyone who can spill the beans on this incident is encouraged to contact the St. Helens Police Department at 503-397-1521.
