Its Sara Underwood versus royalty in the hottest finals
Scappoose native continues Cinderella run in Esquire magazine popularity poll
Scappoose native Sara Jean Underwood continued her successful run this week in Esquire magazine's 'Hottest Woman of the Year' competition, making it to the finals against Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.
Using her popular Twitter account to engage and solicit votes from her fanbase, Underwood has bested 62 other popular female celebrities, including Kristen Bell and Megyn Kelly in the online poll. As of press time Tuesday, Underwood led Middleton by 3 percent.
Last week, Underwood beat actress Amber Heard in the top 8 and 'Underworld' star Kate Beckinsale in the top 4 (See March 28 Spotlight edition, 'Scappoose's Sara Jean Underwood in the running for Esquire's 'Hottest Woman of the Year'').
Underwood has developed a following thanks to her regular hosting gig on pop-culture cable network G4's flagship program 'Attack of the Show!' She has worked steadily in the entertainment industry since becoming 2007's Playboy Playmate of the Year.
In numerous interviews, Underwood, a 2002 Scappoose High School graduate, has said she still considers Scappoose home.
In an interview with Esquire.com Monday, Underwood acknowledged the competition likely means more to her own career than it does to Middleton, a recent addition to the British royal family.
'We definitely have a different fan base, but it feels pretty surreal to be up against her,' Underwood said. 'I mean, of course she's not tweeting. She's busy saving the world and stuff. She does a lot of good things - she's a beautiful lady - but, hey, she's got better things to do than talk about being the hottest woman of the year. So, I think that's going to work in my favor.'
