DOG makes tracks in Veterans Park

Dog Owners Group says next goal is to install 'fire hydrant'

The Scappoose Dog Owners Group recently completed construction of a shelter located in the Veterans Park dog park.

DOG recruited a number of community volunteers to help with its final concrete pouring Saturday, June 7.

“It went really well,” said Denny Evans, chairman for DOG. “We had a good turnout. There was probably 15 volunteers.”

The organization raised about $2,000 for the shelter since March, with the goal of completing the project before Scappoose SummerFest, held June 27 and June 28.

Evans said he was especially appreciative of volunteers such as Hal and Fred Hamilton for helping bring an excavator to the site, as well as Greg Korenberg and Jim Lykins, who donated advise and labor.

Evans said the next project for DOG is to install a fire hydrant at the park so dogs can “check their pee mail.”
