Sheriff's deputy caught up to wife as she drove husband to hospital

by: COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF - Tracy Mitchell was arrested Monday morning after breaking in to a home and stabbing her husband, according to the county sheriff's office. Mitchell was driving him to the hospital when she was stopped by deputies.

A Clatskanie man was hospitalized early Monday morning after his wife broke into a home and stabbed him in the neck and torso.

According to Columbia County Sheriff Jeff Dickerson, 43-year-old James C. Mitchell suffered stab wounds inflicted by his wife, 40-year-old Tracy Mitchell. Deputies responded to a disturbance call at 5:42 a.m. at a home in the 18000 block of Coop Road in Clatskanie.

Dickerson said James Mitchell was alone at the house when Tracy Mitchell entered the home without permission. The Mitchells do not live at that home, according to a news release.

Tracy Mitchell was reportedly driving her husband to the hospital when deputies caught up with her and called for an ambulance.

She was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, menacing and first-degree burglary. Her husband was taken to St. John Hospital in Longview, Washington.

His condition is unknown at this time.
