Fire destroys greenhouse; home spared

Photo Credit: JOHN HOWARD - Firefighters from Scappoose Fire District extinguish flames from a small greenhouse at a property on Johnson's Landing Road Monday afternoon. The fire destroyed the greenhouse, but the main structure was not damaged.

An outbuilding fire just after 12:30 p.m. on Johnson's Landing Road in Scappoose sent a plume of black smoke into the air, but left minimal damage.

Firefighters from Scappoose Fire District were dispatched to the scene at 12:31 and had the flames on a 120-square-foot greenhouse extinguished within minutes. The property's home wasn't damaged and no injuries were reported, Scappoose Fire Division Chief Chris Lake said.

“No injuries, no pets harmed,” Lake reported at the scene.

“They said it was an outbuilding threatening a structure with a structure involved,” Lake said of the initial dispatch call.

Lake said the homeowner reported light smoke in the house, but no major damage to the structure was found.

Fire investigators remained at the scene to try and determine the cause of the small blaze.
