Columbia City man arrested for trying to lure teen
A Columbia City man is in jail on charges of luring a minor, using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct, and encouraging child sex abuse.
Ryan Clint Calhoun, 40, of Columbia City, was arrested Tuesday, May 1 by Columbia County Sheriff's Office deputies.
The arrest came months after the Sheriff's Office received a call on March 2 from a concerned parent who said a 40-year-old man was having "inappropriate contact" with a 14-year-old child.
"It was reported Ryan Calhoun was sending pornographic videos and inappropriate text messages to the child, as well as delivered a sex toy to the child," a news release from CCSO states.
An investigation into the incident by CCSO, Oregon State Police and the St. Helens Police Department led to enough evidence to obtain a search warrant on Calhoun's home and vehicles, including a semi tractor trailer he drove as part of his job.
Police used the teen's cell phone to pose as the child, then made contact with Calhoun, who attempted to meet with the teen, allegedly to have sexual relations with the child, according to the the Sheriff's Office.
In addition to getting Calhoun to arrange a meeting with the teen, investigators found evidence of child pornography in the man's possession.
Calhoun was arrested and booked into Columbia County Jail on $455,000 bail.
"Investigators are concerned there are possibly more victims both locally and across the country given Calhoun's ability to travel, and are encouraging citizens to come forward if they have any information in this case by calling Detective Peabody at 503-366-4609," the Sheriff's Office states.
The FBI, Rainier Police Department and Scappoose Police Department also assisted with search warrants in the case.
