St. Helens robot teams qualify for state

The two St. Helens High School robotics teams won big at the Feb. 11 FTC Tournament at Oregon State University.

Team 4108, 'Guess and Check,' went on to win the competition, being recognized for their design, documentation and community outreach with the top INSPIRE award.

Team 5016, 'Process of Elimination,' had the highest scoring round of the day, winning the THINK award with their scissor lift design.

Both teams qualified for the Oregon State Championship, to be held in two weeks.

Team 4108 members include: Kyle Roby, Kyle Christianson, Eldon Ralls, Ryan Byrd, Stephen Robinson, Nick Troiano and Luke Henderson.

Team 5016 members include: Amy Masoni, David Quennoz, Ben Aday, Grant Prehn, Austin Sandford, Tyger Dolyniuk and Duncan Adams.

Team members and parents will be busy this week preparing to host the final qualifying tournament of the season at McBride this weekend. If you're curious about how a robotics tournament works, come check out the action on Saturday Feb. 18 in the McBride gym and cafeteria from noon-6 p.m.
