A group of St. Helens students placed third in a video creation contest meant to highlight the importance of workplace safety.

With their 45-second 'Building Construction' video, the St. Helens students (Michael Norris, Trent Bennett, Lauren Nollette, Nathan Reed, Mellanie Boeckel, Garrett Tolman, Kori Cox) won $300 in the 2012 'Save a Friend, Work Safe' contest. The film festival was sponsored by a number of workplace safety groups including the Oregon Young Employee Safety Coalition, Oregon OSHA and the SAIF Corporation.

Sisters High School won $500 by placing first, Salem Academy won second place, and Springfield High tied for third with St. Helens.

Michael Norris, Mellanie Boeckel and Catherine Church (pictured left to right) took in a screening of their film along with the other finalists at the Northern Lights Theater in Salem on April 14.
