Track teams have good PR efforts at huge Centennial meet
St. Helens track teams do well at Centennial meet
The St. Helens High track teams had some good efforts at the huge Centennial Meet on Saturday, posting several personal bests.
'I thought the meet went well for us,' St. Helens coach Gerry Tinkle said. 'Our athletes rose to the level of competition. Ryan (Byrd) had an incredible 3,000m. He took 23 seconds off of his PR and is now in the third spot on the SHHS All-Time Top List in the 3k. Both the gentleman in front of him on that (record) list ran at Oregon.'
Byrd's fourth place in the 3,000 and Kylie Reinholdt's third in the triple jump were the highest finishes on the day for St. Helens.
Tinkle added, 'Kyle Vandercook ran well in the 100 and 200. Will (Lawrence) had a good 800 but ran all by himself. His anchor leg of the 4x400 was incredible. He held off a hard charging runner from Newberg. The Newburg runner was featured in an article in the sports section of The Oregonian.'
The coach noted, 'Our girl's 4x400 had to run in a heat with only one other team, but ran hard anyway. They took a lot of pride in their performance. Cynthia Fenrich dropped her time in the 3000m. She gets more competitive every time she runs it. Kayla Brumbles bettered her 800m time. She ran with the leaders, faded a little in the end, but ran a great race. It wasn't necessarily a good day for our jumpers. Three Saturdays in a row was a little hard on their legs.'
