Lady Indians downed by Banks, Yamhill-Carlton

Tribe hangs in against league leaders, but falters with three losses

The Scappoose Lady Indians fell to Banks in a lone game on Tuesday and Yamhill-Carlton in a doubleheader on Friday, leaving them to finish in third place in the Cowapa League.

The Lady Indians can clinch the No. 3 seed in the league with a victory over Tillamook on Tuesday. They just have a doubleheader with last place Seaside remaining this Friday.

The third place team in the standings will play the second-place Tri-Valley Conference team in the play-in round. Madras and Gladstone are currently tied for first in that league. They were to play Tuesday.

The play-in round will probably be played on Friday, May 18. All games must be completed by May 19.

Banks 6, Scappoose 1

Scappoose gave Banks a hard-fought game, tying the score for the first three innings, and then falling behind.

Banks was first on board in the first inning with a homer from pitcher Marla Gooding.

The Lady Indians answered with a run. Sophia Hart led off for Scappoose with a double, but was thrown out on a fielder's choice that put Amara Templin on base. She would score off singles by Cassidy Hoglund and Lexi Courtney.

Hoglund was two for two in the contest with a walk. She is currently hitting .675 for the season.

An error would put a Banks runner on in the fourth and she would score off a play at first. The Lady Braves added two more runs in the fifth off two errors and a single. They put over two insurance runs in the seventh off a single and a two-run homer.

YC 5, Scappoose 4

It was another close game for Scappoose and it wasn't settled until the last inning.

After a first inning that saw singles by Templin and Hoglund and three strikeouts, Scappoose scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Lacey Updike reached base on a walk, was sacrificed to second by Kara Kuiper and then scored on a double by Brittany Catlow. A double by Hart would score Catlow.

Yamhill-Carlton answered in the top of the third with two runs off two singles and a double.

Scappoose took the lead again in the bottom of the frame when Hoglund doubled, and scored on singles by Courtney and Updike.

Scappoose wouldn't get another run until the seventh inning. YC added a run to tie the game in the fifth, and took the lead with a run off two errors and a single in the sixth. They made it 5-3 with a lone run off a walk, and a double in the seventh inning.

Scappoose got a homer from Hoglund in the seventh with two outs, but it wasn't enough. Hoglund was three for four in the game.

YC 8, Scappoose 1

The Lady Indians never really got in the nightcap against Yamhill-Carlton.

They fell behind by three runs in the first and two more in the second on their way to an 8-1 loss.

YC scored their first three runs on three singles and an error. A two-run homer gave them two more in the second.

Scappoose scored their only run in the third inning. Templin reached base on a single, advanced on a single by Hoglund, and scored on a single by Courtney. Hoglund would have another good day at the plate, going two for two and adding a walk.

An error, double, walk and a single gave YC two more runs in the fourth. They added one more in the fifth for good measure.
