Indians on track to win league golf championship
Cody Stutzer heads into district as the top medalist
The Scappoose Indians head into this week's golf district tournament with a good chance of coming home with the Cowapa League championship.
'We have a pretty good shot at winning, unless we do something goofy,' Tribe Coach Steve Hagen said. 'We're looking forward to wrapping up the league title at…(the) district tournament.'
The Indians finished the league schedule undefeated.
Hagen said that the Tribe's Cody Stutzer also had a good chance to win top medalist honors at district.
Stutzer shot a 78 during Scappoose's May 2 win over Banks, 336-377. The Indians' Alex LaChance shot an 83 to finish second. Alex Lukinbeal shot an 88 and Nick Nguyen shot a 90.
'Cody played well with his lowest round of the season. Cody and Alex have continued to improve through the season and both are playing very well as the team prepares for district,' Hagen said.
The Indians started last week with a convincing win last Monday over six other teams at the Seaside Invitational played at the Astoria Country Club.
'The boys played well on a day when the wind was a constant 20 miles per hour with frequent rain showers,' Hagen said.
Stutzer led the Indians with an 82, and LaChance tied for second with an 85. Nguyen finished fifth with an 87. Ryan Karp had a 92 and Lukinbeal a 93.
On Wednesday, the Indians took on Banks at Quail Valley. Stutzer again led the pack with a 78, and LaChance was second with an 83. Lukinbeal had an 88 and Nguyen a 90.
The first day of district is at the Astoria Country Club. The second day is played at Quail Valley.
