Four Lady Indians receive all-state soccer honors


Ariel Viera named to all-state first team

Ariel Viera, First Team All-StateThe Scappoose Lady Indians may not have made the 4A state soccer finals, but four of them were named to the all-state teams this past week.

Topping the list was Ariel Viera. The senior forward made the first team all-state team for the third straight year.

Viera, who scored 116 goals in her career, was in consideration for Player of the Year.

Amber Jensen of Gladstone, the repeat 4A champion, was given POY honors for the second time.

Charlie Davidson, second team all-state.Molly Orr, second team all-stateTwo other Scappoose players, Charlie Davidson and Molly Orr, were named to the all-state second team. Davidson is a junior and Orr a senior.

Lucy Davidson, honorable mentionLucy Davidson, a freshman and sister to Charlie Davidson, received honorable mention.

Five other Cowapa League players received some acknowlegement. Hannah Harder of Yamhill-Carlton, a senior, was named to the second team.

Honorable mention included: Marina Oman, jr., Astoria; Michaela Shurts, sr., Banks; Emily Becker, sr., Seaside; and Kaitlin Lewis, jr., Seaside.

Steven Thomas of Gladstone was named Coach of the Year.

Coaches in the 4A classification voted on selections for all-state honors. The results were compiled by The Oregonnian newspaper.

Scappoose went through the league season unbeaten and had a 15-2 season record. Their only losses came to 4A champ Gladstone and 3A/2A/1A champion OES.
