Tribe holds off late charge at Molalla, can€sˇÃ„ôt finish off Rangers at home

by: JOHN BREWINGTON - Scappoose's Haley Wight goes up for a shot during the first half with Estacada on Friday. Scappoose would end up losing the game by a point. The Lady Indians worked hard to forge a four-point lead over Estacada on Friday with just two minutes left to play. Defensive pressure proved costly and the Lady Indians would lose by one, 35-34.

“We knew going into the season we’d face some pressure like that, so we have to play a full game,” Coach Kevin Buse said. “We need a little more mental toughness. We had a great practice on Saturday.”

Buse said practices were going well and the team was getting better every day.

“We’re still having a problem with the press break, though,” he said. “It all mental. We’ve got to make our lay-ins and lay-ups. We’ve talked about it, but we keep doing what we’ve been doing.”

The Lady Indians had some toughness at Molalla on Tuesday. The team led by just one at the break, but forged a 14-5 third quarter to give them a 10-point lead going into the last period.

Molalla made a run at the Tribe, but they were able to hold on for the win, 39-34. Brittany Catlow led Scappoose in scoring with 10.

Scappoose hosted Roosevelt this Tuesday, and this Friday and Saturday are at the Gladstone Tournament. Their Friday game is at 6 p.m., but the Saturday game time will be determined by how they do on Friday. The team travels to Taft with the boys varsity for a game on Dec. 21.
