Scappoose rolls over opposition in dual match tournament

The Scappoose Indians flexed a lot of muscle and easily handled five teams in a dual match tournament at Stayton mid-December.

Stayton was the only team to even score more than 20 points or win more than three matches against the Tribe.

The Indians topped Crescent Valley, 61-18; downed Central 61-12; beat Sweet Home, 66-12; dismissed Molalla 65-14; and finished off Stayton 53-24.

The Tribe had eight wrestlers go unbeaten in the tournament: Braxton Sue at 106; Kurt Mode at 113; Ryan Bond at 145; Jonathon Tardif at 160; Isaiah Goodrich at 182; Bailey Apon at 195; Devin Ray at 220; and Branden Bailey at 285.

Scappoose was unbeaten in the last four classes, had 28 wins in the last six classes, and was 37-3 from 145 on.

Bond had four pins and a major decision at 145, while Bailey Apon had four pins and a technical fall at 195.

The Indians are at the Aloha Tournament this Friday Dec. 28. They travel to North Marion on Jan. 4. The team is also at the Pac Rim Tournament in Seaside Jan. 11-12. They host Astoria and Seaside on Jan. 16.
