Tribe wrestlers do well at Aloha tourney
Indians third, besting two teams, close with Century
The Scappoose Indians had another solid performance on Friday, taking third place in the Aloha Tournament.
The Indians cruised to wins over Sam Barlow and McKay, sandwiching a loss to a tough Century team in the middle.
While only two Indians went undefeated, Braxton Sue and Kurt Mode, 106 and 113 pound classes, much of the team did have two wins in the tournament. Sue had a pin, a decision and a win by forfeit, while Mode had a pin and two wins by forfeit.
Picking up two wins apiece were Alex Foumal (120), Michael Lohman (152), Johnathan Tardif (160), Isaiah Goodrich (170), Bailey Apon (195), Devin Ray (220), and Branden Bailey (285).
The Indians started the tournament with a 42-23 victory over Sam Barlow. Sue, Walden, Ryan Bond, and Branden Bailey each had pins for the Tribe, while Mode and Ray both picked up forfeits.
Century proved problematic for the Indians. They won just five matches in the tournamentbut were very close in three other matches decided by just a point. The Tribe still had a chance to pull out the win in the late going, but came up short, 36-21.
Against McKay, the Tribe won all but two decisions in the match. However, three of those wins were forfeits. Additionally, the Indians had eight pins in the match, six of them coming in the first round. They coasted to a 69-7 victory.
Several of the Indians were at the St. Helens tournament the next day. Alex Foumal, Hunter Hoyt, Devin Ray, and Brenden Bailey all won their divisions. Jeff VanDomelen was second.
Scappoose was off to Seaside for the Pac Rim Tournament this Friday and Saturday. They host Astoria and Seaside in a double dual match at Scappoose Wednesday, Jan. 16.
