Swim teams down Parkrose
St. Helens girls have a bit easier time than the boys' team
The St. Helens High swim teams both posted wins at Parkrose on Thursday.
The girls came up with a 105-64 victory, winning nine events, including two of the three relays. They also had four seconds in the meet.
Emily Spears, Brook Hopkins, and Patience Marshall each had two individual wins in the meet. Spears won the 200 free and the 100 free. Hopkins was first in the 200 individual medley and Marshall won the 100 fly and the 500 free. Jackie Prevish added a solo first in the 100 breast.
St. Helens boys had a closer meet, winning just five events, but used their depth to garner enough points for the win, 93-76.
Cameron Lein, David Sumsion, Jonathan Prevish, and Andrew Collson won the 200 medley relay, but that was the only relay win of the day. Devon Brady won the 200 free and the 100 free, while Collson won the 50 free and Lein the 100 back. The boys did have seven seconds and seven thirds in the meet.
The swim team has just a big meet with Sherwood left on their schedule before district. That meet is this Thursday at 4 p.m. St. Helens upset Sherwood last year and is looking for a repeat this season.
District is slated for Feb. 8-9 at Parkrose.
We're probably looking at the middle of the pack (at district), but it's hard to tell, though, St. Helens Coach Bill Rash said.
While he has no certain swimmers he expects to make the state meet, he does feel several have shots at it. The best chances to make state would be Devon Brady, Andrew Collson, Jonathan Prevish, Cameron Lein, Brook Hopkins, Emily Spears, and Jackie Prevish, Rash noted.
