Tribe in double dual with Tillamook, Rainier

Stefany Alvarez wins the 100 free; €sÄÃ2Mooks top everyone

The Scappoose Indians had some decent efforts in a double dual meet with Rainier and Tillamook last week.

Tillamook dominated the meet, downing both Scappoose and Rainier in the dual meet scoring.

Top performance for Scappoose was a first by Stefany Alvarez in 100 free and 200 IM. She also swam on two second-place relay teams.

The Indians are prepping for the Cowapa League Championships they host this Friday at the Eisenschmidt Pool in St. Helens.

“We are really looking for a large crowd on Friday to push our girls and boys throughout the meet,” Coach David Richmond said.

He noted some milestones for the club in the meet at Rainier: “Baylee Maloney worked hard this last week and swam the 100 fly for the first time; Lyndsey Marquardt had a nice improvement by 16 seconds in her 500 free; Lucia Morud improved her 100 free by six seconds; Sam Herscovitz had a real solid meet improving his time in his two individual events and broke 30s in his backstroke split; Stefany Alvarez won the 100 free.”

Richmond said the Scappoose girls were looking for their fourth league title in a row this Friday.

“It’s going to be tough, but it’s time for this team to reach that potential we talked about at the start of the season. They’ve had three strong meets in a row now and we’ll see if we can peak this Friday and again next week at Astoria for District. I’m looking for someone or a relay team to set the tone for us at the start of the meet to get us going early. It’s happened three years in a row. We’re going to get after it.”

After Friday’s meet, the Indians will compete at district at Astoria the following Friday and Saturday.
