Ariel Viera up for statewide sports award

Scappoose senior nominated as best soccer player and best 4A prep athlete

Scappoose High School soccer player Ariel Viera is one of three finalists in two categories at the 61st Oregon Sports Awards this Saturday.

Viera was nominated for Prep Soccer Player of the Year and for the Johnny Carpenter Prep Athlete of the Year 4A-1A.

The awards are Presented by Nike and the presentation ceremony is this Saturday at the Tiger Woods Center at Nike World HQ. The Pamplin Media Group is one of the main sponsors of the awards.

Also nominated for the soccer award were Amber Jensen of Gladstone, and Ashlee Schulz of Thurston High.

Viera helped lead the Lady Indians to an undefeated league season and the semifinals of the 4A state playoffs. The Lady Indians lost to eventual champion Gladstone in the semis.
