Lady Lions drop two NWOC games

St. Helens falls behind Liberty early; stays with Parkrose

The St. Helens Lady Lions never really got rolling in a loss to Liberty last week, but stuck with a powerful Parkrose team on Friday.

The Lady Lions only scored nine points in the first half at Liberty on Tuesday. They trailed 28-9 at the break and never made a game of it. While it was closer in the second half, they never really made a dent in the Liberty lead. St. Helens scored more and stayed closer in their first meeting with Liberty.

Friday at Parkrose it was a different type of game. St. Helens had a commanding 10-point lead after one period, but the scoring reversed in the second quarter. Still, the Lady Lions were down by just two at the break. St. Helens took the lead again in the third quarter, albeit just by one point. They led 45-44 going into the last period.

Parkrose’s big post hit six buckets and was four for four on free throws in the last period. She had a game-high 27 points. Their other big scorer was also four for four at the line and hit a basket to give her 22 for the contest.

St. Helens Rianne Tupper had a season-best 20 points. Jillian Ross had 13 and Michelle Sass 11 in the contest.

St. Helens hosted Sherwood this past Tuesday and travels to Wilsonville this Friday. They host Milwaukie and Putnam Tuesday and Friday next week.

The Lady Lions have slipped to 30th in the rankings, and will need some upsets over the next two weeks to move up.
