She had five points in the game.It was a tough week for the St. Helens Lady Lions on the basketball court. First they got hammered by league-leading Milwaukie, and then they were pushed around last Thursday night by a contentious Rex Putnam team.

St. Helens was out of the Milwaukie game early. The Mustangs outscored them 15-4 in the first period and led 29-9 by halftime. It didn’t get better in a 63-25 loss.

Thursday, the Lady Lions faced a Putnam team they had beaten twice before, once in a tournament and once in the first round of league play.

The game didn’t come to actual punches thrown, but a lot of elbows, pushes, and scratches resulted. The officials ignored a lot of the fouling. There was even screaming back and forth in the locker room after the game.

Harcourt had four of those. The Lady Lions fell behind again, but Tupper hit a three-pointer at the end of the quarter to put them only one-point behind.

Putnam had a slight edge in the second, including four points at the end of the frame that gave them a 25-20 halftime advantage.

The Lady Lions fought back going on a 10-3 run that put them within two. They were down by three going into the last period. Putnam rolled off nine points to start the fourth period, and while St. Helens cut into the lead at times, they weren’t able to make much of a dent. They made just two of seven free throws that would have changed the game.
