CC Crusaders drub Cleveland in opening league match

Team looks strong in match

The Columbia County Crusaders rugby team opened their league season on Saturday with a 45-5 win over Cleveland.

Trys were recorded in the first half by Jackie Asher, Kayleigh Horecky (two), Molly Eisenschmidt, and Victoria Horecky. In the second half, Eisenschmidt had two more trys for a hat trick on the day. Asher added another try, and Hannah Serniotti got her first. The team didn’t make a conversion.

Coach Ashley Swanson said, “I am very pleased with how the girls played. Cleveland did a great job keeping their heads up and fighting to the very end. The match was concluded by a social hosted by Cleveland. The girls are able to share a meal and get to know one another. The amazing attributes of rugby is that it encourages good sportsmanship, respect, and camaraderie.”

The Crusaders travel to McMinnville this Saturday to play the Valley Panthers.
