Indians turn in good golf rounds at Tillamook Scramble, Quail Valley

Tribe looking like their at the top of the league


The Scappoose High boy’s golf team had some impressive scores in three outings over the past week.

At the Tillamook Scramble at Alderbrook on April 2, the team of Alex Lukinbeal and Justin Olbrich tied for first with a score of 71. Nick Nguyen and Taylor Thomas finished fifth with a 77. Tyler Lukinbeal and Johnathon Tardif were sixth at 79.

Two days later, Scappoose and Banks had a dual match at Quail Valley. Scappoose won the match 344-350. Alex Lukinbeal shot an 84, his lowest round of the year. Thomas shot a 91, with Olbrich finishing with a 92.

Tuesday this past week, the Indians went against Tillamook in another dual at Quail Valley, winning 336-366, the lowest team score of the year for Scappoose.

Nguyen led the Tribe with a 78, and Alex Lukinbeal had an 82. Olbrich and Tyler Lukinbeal each had an 88, the lowest round of the season for Lukinbeal.

“The Indians continue to improve,”coach Steve Hagen said.“The varsity scores have continued to drop because the boys are practicing hard. The varsity is being pushed by upcoming freshmen and sophomores who are improving quickly and looking for their chance to play in upcoming matches.”

The Tribe headed to the Astoria Fish Invite on Friday April 12 at the Astoria Country Club. They will be at Gearhart for a match with Seaside on Tuesday, April 16.
