Sherwood tough track teams for Lions

St. Helens has trouble keeping pace with visiting Bowmen


Sherwood had a bit of an advantage over the St. Helens High track teams, posting a convincing win over the boys and lambasting the girls.

The St. Helens boys had some highlights in the meet. Thomas Hughes won convincingly in both hurdle events. Bryan Strang took first in the 1,500. The 4x400 relay team of Hughes, Strang, JEff Steinke and Nathan Reed won. Jacob Zartman won the shot put and Nathan Reed won the discus. Nick Dummer was first in the javelin and Levi Luttrell wont he pole vault, while Steinke won the long jump.

Firsts were a little harder for the girls to come by. Patience Marshall won the 800, while Alyssa Holz and Kylie Reinholdt tied for first in the high jump.

St. Helens travels to Sherwood for a four-way meet with the Bowmen, Liberty, and Sandy.

The Northwest Oregon Conference District meet is at Rex Putnam May 16-17.
