Three-run fourth inning lifts Pure Serenity Massage to tournament crown
Two St. Helens Little League teams battled it out in the county-wide Minors Tournament of Champions last week.
It would take a three-run fourth inning for Pure Serenity Massage to jump into the lead and post a 3-1 win for the championship over Sunshine Pizza.
Michael Looney scored the only run for Sunshine earlier in the game. He pounded a shot into deep left center and wheeled his way safe at home.
Sunshine held the narrow lead until the fourth. Pure Serenity loaded the bases, and Kolby Holm was hit by a pitch to send in the tying run. Ben Heitz hit into a fielders choice, cutting down the go-ahead run at the plate. After a strike-out, Neil Wolfe hit a line drive single to send in Ashton Smith and Holm.
Sunshine threatened in the next inning. They loaded the bases. The batter ran the count to 3-2, but Pure Serenity pitcher Eithan Fraze bore down with a strike to stop the threat. That ended Sunshines comeback.
The St. Helens Little League picked all-stars over the weekend, and many of the players on the two St. Helens teams will be competing at the district tournament.
The 9-10 district tournament is at Riverside, beginning July 10. The 10-11 district tournament will be played at Falbo Field in Portland, starting July 5.
The 11-12 All-Stars also play at Falbo Field, starting July 5.
The Juniors District is at Roosevelt High School, hosted by Willamette Little League, July 12-14.
